About Us

Nappy Ever After was set up by Hilary Vick in 2003 as a Camden-based local nappy laundry service. She wanted to use cloth nappies on her first child but couldn’t find any information. By the time her second child was born, there was more information but no-one in the local area who could give impartial and knowledgeable advice. Added to that she wanted a sustainable, local, community-based and no-waste solution; and so Nappy Ever After was established as a not-for-profit social enterprise.

Hilary opened her shop in Somers Town, near to Euston and King’s Cross/St Pancras stations, in 2003, initially to run the nappy laundry operations and as a place where people could come for advice and information about real nappies in central London. Working with local councils, Hilary helped to set up the first cashback scheme to encourage parents to use real nappies. She organised enthusiastic volunteers to talk to antenatal classes and other parents about the benefits of using cloth nappies and supported all in the cause.

Hilary VickGradually she added ranges to her shop and now Nappy Ever After sells nappy wraps, nappies, organic and fairtrade baby clothes, shoes and other sustainable products for babies and young children.

In May 2008 Nappy Ever After became Bummis’ UK distributor. Prefolds are the system of choice for nappy laundry services – easy to use, easy to wash and sustainable. We fell in love with Bummis (a Canadian manufacturer of cloth wraps and nappies) when we started using their wraps – they are the best we’ve tried (and we’ve tried loads!) since the nappy laundry service started. Great quality, prints and the same ethos about life and a sustainable future.

Then we tried their prefolds and that cemented our relationship. We believe that the Bummis range is the best quality, ethical and economical prefold system on the market. We are absolutely thrilled that Bummis has now added unbleached organic prefold nappies to its range, shipped to the UK directly from Pakistan. It is a great privilege for Nappy Ever After to be bringing economically priced organic nappies to the UK market.

Katrina Browning joined Nappy Ever After in June 2009, having used the laundry service with her first daughter and washed nappies at home with her twins. She used prefolds with all her children (if you visit the shop, ask to see her framed well-used prefolds!).

Susan Haire has managed the laundry service since October 2009. She ran Baby Munchkins with her partner for six years and believes in a sustainable future for herself and her son.

If you’re visiting London or live locally, then come and see us. Our shop is open on a Tuesday 2-5pm and by appointment for demonstrations. We would love to meet you.

Enjoy real nappies, enjoy making a difference.
